Winter Saturdays at the Burke Museum
This winter the Burke offers an opportunity to come in from the cold and observe art in the making.
On selected Saturdays, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., talented young Native carvers and established artists alike will create totems, masks, boxes and more, right before your eyes. Set within the context of the current exhibition, Out of the Silence: The Enduring Power to Totem Poles, these carving demonstrations illustrate one of the core messages of the show - that monumental scuplture continues to thrive on the Northwest Coast.
Stop by for a while or stay all day, but don't miss your chance to chat with a carver as he works or see a figure take shape from a piece of cedar.
Carving demonstrations are included with admission to the Out of the Silence exhibit. Complete schedule listed at www.burkemuseum.org.
