Dennis S. McLaughlin

Dennis S. (Denny) McLaughlin, 69, a 44-year resident of Woodinville, died at home on April 16, 2005, after an eight-year battle with multiple myeloma. He was born in Bremerton and attended school in Seattle at St. Benedict’s and graduated from Lincoln High School. He served in the Navy, stationed on Guam as a member of the Seebees, then worked as a carpenter on the Eastside, Seattle and Kingston for 35 years.

While living in Woodinville, Denny worked in scouts, coached soccer, and was active in the Cottage Lake PTA, cooking salmon at the annual barbecue and actively working at the Spring Fair.

He also helped rebuild the gazebo at the Woodinville Cemetery. As a member of the Cottage Lake Improvement Club, he helped with work parties, cleaning the outlet from the lake and rowing each night in December to the Christmas tree that sat on a float in the middle of the lake with a gas generator, which had to be refilled each night. His pride and joy were his children, and he enjoyed working and playing with them, restoring his Model A and all things mechanical. Anyone needing a part for anything showed up and D’s house.

Denny married Claire (Mimi) Caldwell on Nov. 18, 1961, on Mercer Island and they moved to Woodinville to raise their family, which included a horse, several cows, dogs and a goat.

In adding a second story to their house, they used the original floor joists from the dance hall at Cottage Grove Resort on the east side of the lake.

The family home for 30 years was at the site of the current Bear Creek United Methodist Church.

In addition to his spouse, Denny is survived by son Steven (Ethel) of Richmond, Va., and children: Molly, Timmy, Mary Alice and Gracie; daughter, Lynn (Lynn) Lovell of Duvall and children: Eleah, Paige, Collyn and Presley; son, Shawn (Stacy) of Ellensburg and children: Allie and Shane; son and caregiver Neil, and mother Mabel McLaughlin (age 101)at the home in Woodinville; sister, Nancy Scott of Steilacoom and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. H.J. (Dewey) McLaughlin and sister Muriel (Meno) Jane Cazzetta.

Memorial services will be held April 30 at 2 p.m. at the Northwest Community Church, 11715 North Creek Parkway S. Suite 110, Bothell, behind Home Depot.
