The Woodinville Fields renovation project received good news from the state recently when the City learned that the project has been awarded a $75,000 grant.
Lane Youngblood, Director of Parks and Recreation, recently received word from the Recreation and Conservation Office that the project has been awarded a Youth Athletic Facilities (YAF) grant. The Recreation and Conservation Funding Board (RCFB) approved the funding at the end of March, and announced that the Woodinville Fields project ranked first out of 20 projects from around the state that applied for funding in the “improving” category.
“A number one ranking state-wide in the YAF improving category is tremendous,” stated Suzette Hart, Campaign Director for the project. “The grant applications are evaluated in a very competitive process,” Hart added. All project applications are ranked on 11 separate questions, such as demonstration of the communities’ need for improved facilities, community support, readiness to proceed, and multi-generational availability and use. In addition, grant recipients must demonstrate at least 50 percent in matching resources.
Matching resources for the project a leveraged through the donations made to the Capital Campaign, which is organized through the Northwest Parks Foundation. According to Hart, there are still opportunities for the community to get involved at all levels of funding to support the project. “Large or small, when added to other gifts, your donation can be used in tremendous ways, as this grant from the state demonstrates.”
