Duvall residents Tim Fay (center), Ian Fay, 9, (on Tim’s right) and Ryan Tracy, 9, cross the finish line in the Duvall Days 5K run. The three of them finished the race in 26 minutes.

It looked like the setup for a Tide commercial.

Mud spattered brown was the color of the day at the 2008 Duvall Days 5K and 10K runs on Saturday, June 7. A broken beaver dam earlier in the week and torrential downpours in the hours leading up to the run had the race crew hustling.

But no worries – the runners came and started lining up for Day of Race registration. Runners love a challenge and the muddy 5K trail and looming hills of one of the toughest 10K courses in Washington state enticed 420 runners to register for the June 7th 5K/10K Runs.

Despite a soggy trail, Liz Wilson set a new course record for the women’s 5K of 18:41. A familiar face, two-time All American and three-time Duvall 5K winner Eric Garner was first in with a speedy 15:47.

Course record holder Fred Motteler was back in fine form to conquer the 10K, turning in a solid 38:20. Carnation’s own Kathy Kearney won the 10K for the women in a 44:18 on the vertical course.

These folks lead the contest for the Snoqualmie Valley Cup http://www.duvallwa.gov/duvalldays/2008valleycup.html.

They were expected to be on the course at last weekend’s Fall City Days races.
