Slated to open in the second half of 2021, Ballard Pizza Co. plans to open its first Eastside expansion location at the new five-acre Schoolhouse District project in downtown Woodinville.

The restaurant, which anchors the project’s Wine Walk Row, will feature 3,000 square feet overlooking the Woodinville Sports Field and all-new Festival Street. Mainstreet Property Group LLC and its partner HAL Real Estate announced the new location on May 11. 

“I am proud to say that I grew up on the border of Redmond and Woodinville,” said Steve Hooper, president of Ethan Stowell Restaurants, which runs Ballard Pizza Co. “For me, opening this new location is a happy homecoming and a celebration of some of my fondest memories. I want to give back to the community the type of restaurant that I have loved.”

Ballard Pizza Co. opened its original location in late 2010, followed by a second site in Fremont and a third at T-Mobile Park. The eatery offers classic New York-style deck oven pizza and fresh ingredients, including aged dough to add depth and flavor, according to a press release.  

A variety of items will also be available via restaurant or patio dining, takeout and delivery. The menu will include everything from pizzas, salads, snacks and sweets to wines, beers, ciders, seltzer and soft drinks.

Topped with shredded mozzarella, pecorino, pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, black olive and tomato sauce, the Ballard Bridge Pizza is a special fan favorite. Another popular choice is the Carbonara Pizza with shredded mozzarella, garlic oil, egg, garlic confit, speck and parmigiano reggiano.

“Ethan Stowell Restaurants has always had a strong tie to the Woodinville wine community,” said Ethan Stowell, founder and CEO of the restaurant company. “But with this new Ballard Pizza Co. location, we are most excited about getting to know the families and personalities of this fantastic community.”

With a focus on catering to communities and families, the new location will feature reclaimed and warm woods with Pacific Northwest modern-styling, weathered concrete and metal finishes in a durable space that feels comfortable and lived-in. The space will include a mix of small and large tables, counters for stools or standing and an abundance of outdoor seating.

Kelly Price, president of MainStreet Property Group, said this type of “vibrant and familial” gathering space is exactly what they envisioned for this space in the Schoolhouse District. The announcement of this new pizzeria comes just after Walla Walla Steakhouse and Crossbuck Brewing were revealed as anchor tenants in the old Schoolhouse No. 23 Building. She aims to continue building on Woodinville’s “strong sense of community,” she added. 

According to Price, the Schoolhouse District will provide a first-of-its-kind destination experience with multiple options for dining, residential living, wine tasting and recreation. The project’s Wine Walk Row will feature up to 11 wine tasting spaces on the ground floor of two multi-family buildings.

“We’re especially excited about welcoming a carefully-curated mix of new wineries to the spaces in Wine Walk Row,” said Angela Oliveri, executive vice president at the property management company First Western Properties. “With a limited number of tasting spaces available, our team is hand-selecting tenants that represent the very best Washington wineries.”

Pre-leasing for the 266 multi-family residential homes will begin as early as July 1, with the building slated to open on Sept. 1. The existing Carol Edwards Center YMCA will also be renovated to accommodate about 120 children. Roughly 400 stalls of underground parking, with 170 stalls available for public use, will be included as well.

The project includes the addition of approximately 30,000 square feet of public open space, including a Festival Street promenade that will be used for city events. This area will also include outdoor dining and seating, a public playground, a chalkboard wall and game areas, an outdoor movie wall, public art and field-viewing spaces.
