Although the 2021 State Spring Special Olympic Games were cancelled this year, the spirit stayed alight during the 40th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The event is usually held before the games to raise awareness and funding for the Special Olympics program.

Athletes Amanda Remmem and Viana Lopez joined Kristi Bridgman of the King County Sheriff's Office at Wilmot Gateway Park on Friday, Aug. 20 to walk a mile as part of the torch run. They were escorted by Woodinville and Burien Police Officers, as well as the K-9 Luna.

The team traveled around the county, carrying what's known as the Flame of Hope.
