The Woodinville High School girls gymnastics team clinched the district championship title against Inglemoor, North Creek and Bothell high schools on Saturday, May 8.
WHS finished with a team score of 174.5, followed by Inglemoor (168.15), Bothell (167.15) and North Creek (156.95). Freshman Emily Brouwers took first place in the individual all-around with top finishes on the vault, beam and floor. Senior Sidney Mays finished fourth and sophomore Katie Barker took fifth.
“We had a fabulous last week,” head coach Kathie Koch said. “The girls performed their routines well. Everyone was pretty happy with their performances.”
The team’s three seniors ended the season with exemplary performances, Koch said. Mays placed fourth in the all-around, taking third on the vault and fourth on the bars. Seniors Lexi Bernhoft and Ella Marvin executed their best performances of the year on the vault and bars.
“Our team was a really young team,” she said. “For a young team to do so well within our school district was really exciting. I think the future looks really bright with these kids.”
Koch is looking forward to a full season next year as the team continues to grow. She thinks it will be a strong team moving forward.
