February 4, 2020

Claire "Mimi" McLaughlin, a long-time resident of Woodinville, passed away unexpectedly on February 4, 2020, at age 80, from Aortic Dissection.

Mimi was preceded in death by her husband Denny. She is survived by her sister Joan, 4 children: Steven, Lynn, Shawn and Neil McLaughlin and 10 grandchildren. Mimi was born to Dr. and Mrs. JP Caldwell on April 24, 1939, and raised in Cheney, Wash., and graduated class Valedictorian. She graduated from Whitman College in 1961 with a BA in PE, minor in philosophy and K-12 teaching certificate; completing her 5th-year education certificate from Seattle Pacific University in 1984.

Mimi married Denny and they moved to Cottage Lake in November 1961 and she taught PE at Whitman Jr High. Her children were born in 1961, '64, '67 and 1970.

She taught in Northshore schools from 1981-1992. She was employed at Northshore Senior Center as a Social Services/volunteer coordinator and Facilities Manager 1988-2006. She continued her gig at the senior center as a very active and involved volunteer, and as gardener and greeter at the Northshore Health and Wellness Center until her death.

She was extremely active in the community, especially in schools. She served as PTA president at Cottage Lake and Bothell High, on the Northshore Recreation Council 1968-1987, in leadership roles at Camp Casey, Camp Fire and Red Cross swim, as well as a life saving/lifeguard, First Aid and CPR instructor. She chaperoned for Northshore Ski School for 16 yrs. She received many awards for her years of community and school service and was inducted into the Northshore Wall of Honor 2019.

Mimi had many interests, especially sports, gardening, the arts and reading. She was an avid sports fan and regularly attended high school football, basketball, gymnastics, music performances and state solo and ensemble events and enjoyed attending her grandkids' events. She skied until 2017.

Mimi was a force to be reckoned with. She had seemingly endless energy and was creative and resourceful, generous and well-intended. She was ALWAYS willing to help. She was spirited, thoughtful and very "motherly". She was deeply loved and will be missed by so very many. Services will be held at Northshore Senior Center at 1 p.m. on Feb 22.
