Lady Falcons grab 6th KingCo. Championship in a row, district tournament tips off Friday

With the regular season over, the top-ranked Woodinville Lady Falcons varsity basketball team is off and running for a back-to-back state championship.

But first, they need to get through the district tournament.

Woodinville needs two more wins at the KingCo. 4A District 1/2 Tournament to advance to the WIAA State Tournament for the sixth year in a row, not counting the Covid season. Considering they haven’t lost since the season opener against Tumwater on Dec. 2, the Lady Falcons are in the driver’s seat.

Since the early season loss, the Falcons have won 21 games in a row. Their overall record stands at 21-1 heading into the district tournament.

At the KingCo. 4A Championships, Woodinville easily defeated Issaquah 68-37 followed by a 56-48 win over Eastlake in the championship game. The Falcons have repeated as KingCo. Champions for six years straight, not counting the Covid season.

Against Issaquah, Woodinville came out scoring, dropping 21 first quarter points while holding the Eagles to seven. In the second quarter, the Eagles managed 15 points to Woodinville’s 20, ending the half with a 41-22 Woodinville lead.

The second half was a repeat of the first, with a little less scoring. The Falcons dropped 27 second half points on the Eagles, while only allowing 15 Issaquah points in the 68-37 win.

Junior Lyla Kahrimanovic scored a season-high 22 points and added six rebounds and two steals.

Jaecey Eggers added 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The junior center blocked four Eagle shots.

Senior guard Brooke Beresford was a tyrant on the boards, grabbing a team-high 15. She added six assists, five steals and five points.

Freshman Jazlyn Wilkerson scored nine points, along with six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Macartney Noe scored five points and had two assists.

The Falcons shot 43% from the field and 20% from beyond the three-point line. On the season, Woodinville is shooting 46% from the field and 28% from three. They average 68.2 points per game.

Following the win over Issaquah, Woodinville took on Eastlake in the championship game.

Eastlake battled hard in the first quarter, hanging with the Falcons 16 points with 15 of their own. In the second quarter, the Lady Falcons got a little distance and extended their lead 30-21 heading into the half.

Eastlake outscored Woodinville 13-11 in the third quarter, cutting the Falcon lead to 41-34.

In the fourth, Woodinville dropped 15, while holding Eastlake to 12 in the 56-46 win.

Eggers and Kahrimanovic scored 19 points each. Eggers added a team-high 15 rebounds.

Beresford scored eight points and grabbed 10 boards, along with four assists.

Noe scored five points. Wilkerson added four.

Woodinville shot 56% from the field and 75% from the foul line.

Woodinville will face the winner of the North Creek vs. Kamiak game on Feb. 10.
