3 Lady Falcons grapple at Mat Classic XXXIV

Woodinville High School sent three Lady Falcons to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Girls 3A/4A Mat Classic XXXIV Feb. 17-18 at the Tacoma Dome.

In the 100-pound bracket, Eden Lopez, senior, opened Round 1 with a 5-3 decision loss to Jaelyn Quintanilla of Decatur High School. In the consolation bracket, Lopez received a bye in the first round. In Round 2, she defeated Fatimah Aladilee, Thomas Jefferson High School, by 4-1 decision, advancing to Round 3. In Round 3, Lopez lost by major decision 10-2 to Latham West, Bonney Lake. She finished her season with a 6-5 record. Prior to the state tournament, Lopez finished 6th at the regional tournament.

In the 125-pound bracket, Aliza Price, sophomore, opened Round 1 with a bye, followed by a Round 2 10-6 decision loss to Haliyah Yanez, Davis High School. In the consolation bracket, Price received a bye in Round 2, followed by a pin at the 2:28 mark over Alyssa Reyes, Chief Sealth High School. In Round 4, Price faced Eden Lopez, Chief Sealth High School, who pinned the Woodinville grappler in 28 seconds to end her season. She finished with a 9-4 record.

In the 135-pound bracket, Kylie Mejia, senior, pinned Amani Goda of Mount Rainier High School in 28 seconds to advance to Round 2, where she lost by fall at the 1:01 mark to Annika Lee, North Thurston High School. In the consolation bracket, Mejia pinned Lillian Collet, Garfield High School in 1:45 in Round 2, followed by a loss to Abby Tveit, Shorewood High School, who pinned Mejia in 23 seconds. Mejia finished the season with a 7-7 record.

Prior to the WIAA Mat Classic, Woodinville sent four lady wrestlers to the WIAA Girls 3A/4A Region 1 tournament at Snohomish High School Feb. 11. Woodinville finished 14th with 39 team points and qualified three wrestlers for state.

The Moses Lake Lady Mavericks won the Mat Classic XXXIV with 136 team points, followed by Curtis High School with 120 points and Yelm High School with 109 points.
