Woodinville boys sends 8 wrestlers to Mat Classic XXXIV, Jones places 6th

After finishing second in team points at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) 4A Region 2 Boys wrestling tournament at Gonzaga Prep School, Spokane, Woodinville sent eight wrestlers to the Tacoma Dome for a shot at a 4A state title in the Mat Classic XXXIV boys’ tournament Feb. 17-18.

Junior Chase Jones, wrestling at 160 pounds, was the only Falcon to place, finishing in 6th place at the state tournament in Tacoma.

Jones opened the tournament with a 1:54 pin over Grayson James of Jackson High School. In Round 2, Jones lost by major decision 13-3 to Mathias Collins of Kennedy Catholic High School, who would eventually go on to capture a state title at 160 pounds.

The loss to Collins sent Jones to the consolation bracket. In the consolation rounds, Jones lost by 10-7 decision to Emilio Tomomei, Kentridge High School. In the match for 5th place, the Woodinville junior lost by 10-7 decision to Simon Jarrell of Camas High School to finish 6th.

Jones finished the season with a 43-9 record.

Joshua Krah, junior, season record 24-16. Finished 5th at regionals and did not wrestle at the state tournament.

4A 145 pounds

Nate Roemer, junior, season record 17-11. Finished 4th at regionals and 0-2 at the state tournament.

4A 152 pounds

Carlos Miramontes, senior, season record 2-3. Finished 2nd at regionals and 0-2 at the state tournament.

4A 160 pounds

Chase Jones, junior, season record 43-9. Finished 6th at the state tournament and 1st at regionals.

4A 170 pounds

Simon Mills, senior, season record 34-11. Finished 4th at regionals and 0-2 at the state tournament.

4A 182 pounds

Gabe Porter, sophomore, season record 27-5. Finished 3rd at regionals and 1-2 at the state tournament.

4A 195 pounds

Jayvon Garcia, senior, season record 20-14. Finished 2nd at regionals and 0-2 at the state tournament.
